A Day in My Life

Shortly before Christmas, 2001, I took this series of photos I called "A Day in My Life." Perhaps fortunately at the time, I didn't know what upheaval would enter my life three weeks later with the loss of my job, and six weeks later with the ending of my relationship.

These aren't the best photos; they aren't posed, or rehearsed. I just took a picture with my camera of my normal daily sights.

Our upstairs hallway, the first thing I see when I leave the bedroom, with four framed photographs that I took.

Our living room. Can you tell I like to read?

Steve in the kitchen making his breakfast. He was not much pleased that I was taking his picture while he was still in "casual" mode.

The table in the kitchen, looking back towards the dining room.

The dining room, with the window looking out the front.

Outside the apartment. The center doors and balcony are ours; the dining room windows are hidden behind the trees to the left, and the living room windows are to the right of the door, between the hideous lamps.

Underground gated parking, thank God. My Toyota Camry "Bluebelle" is on the left; Steve's Saab 9-5 convertible "Sven" is on the right.

Leaving our street, about to turn right on the way to work. Yes, tall palm trees are everywhere in L.A.

Even the parking lot for the grocery store (located on the roof of the store!) looks beautiful, with clear skies.

Heading towards the office. My office building is barely visible directly ahead.

Mark, our Shipping Clerk/Receptionist.

The view down the length of the office.

The former supply closet that we laughingly called our "Warehouse", stuffed to the gills.

My daily dose of sunshine: co-worker and neighbor Bill Bivens.

Accounting manager Ray McCuen.

My always-messy desk. Since World AIDS Day was December 1st, I did a display of the quilt panel I had made for my friend Henry on the wall.

Our Production department got located in the former Warehouse space. They covered up their unfinished ceiling with an excess of Christmas decorations, going on the theory that no amount is too much.

Personally, I think they may have been stretching it a bit, but it's not PC to call Christmas decorations tacky.

Ryan Elizalde, one of the original GayWired employees, and Anke Mackethun, web designer extraordinaire.

Our "Conference Room", also being used to store boxes of Queer as Folk T-shirts.

View back up the office from my desk.

The lobby of our building. This photo makes it almost look nice. It's been a construction zone for two years, because they do three days of work on it per quarter. It makes us feel like we're working in the Kabul Office Park.

From the outside of the building looking East, you have the Hollywood Galaxy 6 theatres, a good place to catch a show back when I could park in the parking garage at work.

One block east. The infamous Mann's Chinese Theater.

More of Mann's, and the beginnings of the Hollywood/Highland Complex, a $615 million dollar renovation.

The Kodak Theatre, the new home of the Academy Awards. What they didn't tell people is that they would shut down all the streets for five blocks around for "security" for the Academy Awards, basically making life a living hell for residents and workers.

They designed the center courtyard of Hollywood/Highland so that you can look into it from Hollywood Blvd. and see the Hollywood sign.

All the sidewalks in this area are the famous "Hollywood Walk of Fame." Here's what a typical star looks like.

The essence of Hollywood: are these Christmas decorations glitzy, or just tacky? As is so often the case, it depends on the lighting. They look impressive at night, awful by day.

Another view of Hollywood/Highland from the corner of Hollywood and Highland. The wrap-around video display is neat and unique (for the moment).

In the gym, changed into my workout togs. It's very difficult to take a flash picture of yourself.

Inside the gym.

Tony, who hates having his picture taken. He's the most non-narcissistic bodybuilder I've ever met. You can see contest photos of Tony on his web site at www.tonywisniewski.com.

Main area of the gym. My camera can't take good photos of such a large space at night. Check out better photos on the gym website at www.ultrabodyfitness.com.

The cardio area up front.

Tony and his fiance June.

Staff photo. This is my black humor. Click on the thumbnail, wait for it to load, and then wait about 15 seconds. Enjoy!
